Well hello there! Yes, I’m still alive…just extremely out of touch! It’s been a whirlwind of a week (or month really), and I’m glad the craziness is dying down. The day after Christmas, we flew out to NYC where we’ll be for the next week, hitting up our favorite spots. We’re crashing with our friends in Chelsea until the 1st, so bringing in the new year New York style! I’m still finalizing my New Year’s outfit – why is it so stressful every year?! I wait last minute every. single. time. So far, I’ve got a vintage purple velvet midi dress (it’s my aunt’s from the early 80s). I’m still on the hunt for glam earrings – I’ve had my eye on these bad boys, but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. For those of you still stewing on your New Year’s outfits, I’ve pulled together 25 pieces you can rock on NYE. Together, separate…it can all work. Be prepared for lots of sequins, metallics, velvet, and sheerness.
PS – a few tips as you work through your New Year’s resolutions, and how you can keep yourself motivated to work out post-holiday (because I know I need to hit the gym HARD next week)!
Annnd it’s Monday. Isn’t it so tough to get back to the grind after a holiday weekend? I am struggling. I hope you guys got some good shopping in (here are the deals I featured on Friday – I’m sure some of these are still going!). I tried to keep it together on the shopping because I treated myself a few weeks back on a BAG!! I never buy bags, so this was kind of a big deal. Not saying I didn’t buy anything, but ya know, I reeled it in a bit (we also did just come back from Paris, yeesh).
Since I rarely invest in a good bag, I researched the sh*t out of this before pulling the trigger. I’m talking months of scrolling through Instagram, flagging various bags to investigate. I ended up deciding on this beautiful bucket bag by Danse Lente. I love the versatility of both the color and the ability to wear it as a cross body and as a handbag. It’s also just plain stunning. This past weekend, I paired it with neutral colors and it made my outfit.
On my adventure to find the ultimate bag, I came across so many brands that I fell in love with. None of them were major designers (which I was trying to avoid), since I was hoping to find something a bit more exclusive and unique. Keep on reading to get the scoop…
Hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving! I spent the evening at Mom’s with family – we went overboard on desserts per usual. That’s how we roll! I started the day today with a quick AM workout, and then proceeded to lounge around the house the rest of the day. SO productive. I’m procrastinating the Christmas tree assembly; it needs to happen this weekend. Sigh. I’ll get around to it.
PS – It’s Black Friday sales weekend! I finished up my shopping early yesterday – only bought a few things since I’ve been on a 3 week shopping spree (it was my birthday & I treated myself!). I wish I had waited because the sales today are TOO GOOD. Below are 21 Black Friday sales to shop ASAP –
The first item on my agenda when we arrived in Paris? VINTAGE. Where. is. it.
We landed, took a nap to recover from our flight…and as Leo was still sleeping, my vintage hunt began. Luckily, we stayed in Le Marais, which is basically the vintage mecca of Paris. Immediately after visiting the first vintage shop, I knew I was in for a treat. The Parisian vintage shops are well curated, and house ALL of the trends you can imagine, nicely organized in separate racks. Kimonos? Check (I actually bought one! You’ll see it soon). Plaid shirts? Check. Varsity Jackets. Check (except I couldn’t find my size – so sad). Items I’d normally be looking everywhere to find were right there at my fingertips. It was a vintage shopper’s dream.
I popped into several shops, but these were my favorites –
New York fashion week feels like ages ago, but I realized that I never did my standard round up post of the street style trends! Typically, I find the trends after perusing through all of the street style pics..but this time around, I saw everything first hand. As crazy & overwhelming NYFW was, the most fun part was the inspiration you’re surrounded by, both on the runway & on the street. Walking in and out of shows may have been my favorite part of it all, with the street style photographers crowded at the corners, waiting for the next street style star to walk on by. Here are 5 trends I saw everywhere the few days I was there! I’ve pulled together my favorite pieces from each trend so that you can shop it too, if your heart desires.
If there is an item I find myself shopping the most, it’s shoes. Ever since I can remember, shoes have been my favorite accessory…almost to a fault (I have very few bags and need to step up my game!). A chic pair of shoes can elevate any outfit, and depending on where/what you’re buying, you don’t have to break the bank to build a solid shoe collection.
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve become more particular about the types of shoes I buy. Sure, I’ll get a cheap-y trendy shoe once in a while, but for the most part, I want a high quality shoe for a good price (I’m a major bargain shopper). That is virtually impossible to find when you’re shopping at department stores. If it’s made in Italy, you’re likely going to pay a premium for it. With that said, I’ve resorted to various online shops to fuel my shoe addiction – and so far it’s been working out for me! Below are a few sites I regularly stalk for the next shoe purchase.
As a former Nordstrom employee (Nordy’s basically paid for all my bar tabs in college), I get particularly excited about the Anniversary Sale every summer. I remember back in the day the chaos that would ensue the first day of Anniversary – running “dump” (what we called tried on clothes that had to be put back – WHY did we call it “DUMP”?!!), fighting for the best Anniversary shifts (the first day of the sale mornings were always best!), making sure the floor was spic & span after hundreds of people had rummaged through. Things have changed a bit now with presale & early access, but one thing that hasn’t changed is the killer deals!
For the Nordstrom rookies out there, this sale is all brand new fall gear marked down. Once the sale is over, whatever inventory is left gets marked up to regular price, so now is the time to go cray. I will be the first to admit I’m not one who shops in stores much anymore, but this is an event I show up for.
Now we’re in the phase of “early access”, which means you can only shop if you’re a Nordstrom Credit or Debit card holder (if you’re not, find a friend who is STAT). Otherwise, everyone will be able to shop from 7/21-8/6! I’ve linked to my favorite products below – so so many good things to choose from. Shop away!
I alluded to this a couple weeks back, but I have a really tough time shopping for swimsuits. Swimsuit shopping is tough period, and it gets even more difficult if you have big boobs. I can recall countless times where I’ve tried on swimsuit after swimsuit and end up leaving the store nearly in tears. I used to feel like swimwear just wasn’t made for us bustier babes. Luckily, over time, I realized that there are suits out there that work with my body. I just have to look for the right things (& avoid a few others) to set me up for success. Here are a few rules of thumb I follow when swimsuit shopping –
It’s that time of year to stock up on swimsuits for the season! I didn’t have a proper spring break this year, so I’m fiending for sunshine and warm weather (& let’s be real, a TAN). This pic from Milos, Greece in 2015 is giving me major feels…take me back! PS – I’m officially booked again for Greece this summer – we have a wedding this year and will be exploring new islands. Yay!
Anyway, I always have a hard time finding suits because my boobs don’t fit in anything #bigboobprobs. That said, I have to start shopping earlier than most so I can try and return before I settle on my top picks. It takes more time than I’d like to admit, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Fit is KEY with swimsuits, so I suck it up and prepare myself to try on a million before finding the perfect one. Here are suits I’m loving currently (whether or not I can actually wear them – maybe I can, we’ll see), curated by trend/style! By the way, ASOS has a full bust line that I LOVE. I’ve included a few below, but you can shop the full collection here.
Happy Friday! I don’t know why, but I feel like it should have been Friday two days ago. This week was TOO long, but thankfully it’s March which means we’re getting closer and closer to spring! Shoes have always been my weakness, and I’ve officially run out of space for them in my closet #thestruggleisreal. I’ve always believed that shoes can take a simple ensemble to the next level – from basic to trendy in the blink of an eye. That said, I’m currently working on picking the few pairs I want to add to my closet for spring. While I’m clearing out the old to make room for the new, here are the spring shoe trends I’ve been keeping my eye on.
