One thing I love about Chicago is that once the weather starts to warm up, people are out and about…immediately. We’ve been so deprived of sunshine, that once the sun makes an appearance, we’re out in shorts and tank tops (even though it’s still low 60’s and probably still too cold for summer clothing). Hit up Big Star’s patio on a sunny Saturday afternoon and you’ll see exactly what I’m talking about. Outside of taking advantage of every bar/restaurant patio, I typically try to plan a few spring-y activities (in addition to things I’ve been wanting to do for months while in hibernation mode) to embrace the change of seasons. Currently on my bucket list:
Walk the 606 – This gorgeous trail was built last summer and goes through several neighborhoods in Chicago’s west side. The scenery is awesome, and it’s just perfect for a bike ride, quick run or even a nice long walk. I’m hoping for a nice long walk on the trail followed by a delicious dinner in Humboldt Park or Logan Square.
See a Broadway show – Did you guys watch Matilda growing up? Let’s just say my brother and I had this movie on repeat for YEARS. It’s now it’s a Broadway musical, and unfortunately I missed my opportunity to see it in Chicago….I’m hoping to catch it in NYC on my next visit.
Check out the Garfield Park Conservatory – Apparently, this place is pretty great and I’ve never even been. It seems to be the perfect getaway from the craziness of the city, with tropical plants (& temperatures) across several different rooms. I’d love to go to an event here at some point!
Go to an event at MCA – Another place I’ve yet to visit. Leo and I just bought tickets to one of the events they host at the museum, MCA Prime Time. They host this event three times a year, and bring in DJs for live music, have special art exhibitions, along with the option to purchase drinks & food. I’m super psyched about the upcoming Prime Time, as it will be a tribute to Prince.
Go on a brewery tour – It’s about time I scoped out Revolution and Lagunitas breweries. I’ve been putting this off since I’m not a huge fan of beer, but I think the overall experience will be worth it.
What’s on your Spring bucket list?
