Welp, I’m feeling a bit rusty at this. I’ve been MIA here on the blog because, well, life..and I’ve been dedicating loads of time on YouTube (which if you don’t follow along there please do because I need some gratification that this is worth it LOL). JK, kind of. In all seriousness, it’s been fun to flex and learn a new thing…and I finally feel like I’m acting like a normal human (well, as normal as I get) in front of the camera, so I gotta keep this going! In the meantime, I’m going to do my best to make sure the blog gets some love too :).

Now that you’re aware of my slime green oufits obsession, I don’t think we need to discuss much further…other than the fact that you should also get some slime green in your life. It will make you feel like a million bucks and will brighten a rainy day (which we’ll have plenty of in the near future – I’m just looking out, friends!). PS – this shoot made me happy inside because we’re right in front of one of my fav dessert spots (& a Chicago staple!), Margie’s.

Today, we’re talking podcasts. I know, has nothing to do with the pictures, but wouldn’t you prefer I prance around happily in my green ensemble vs. pretending to listen to podcasts while smiling at my phone with a full face of makeup on a Sunday afternoon? Because, well, that would never f*cking happen irl. The reality is, I listen to podcasts more in the warmer months because I find excuses to walk EVERYWHERE, and home from the office is my dedicated podcast time. I’ve found a few that I look forward to playing every week, and figured I’d share!

fat mascara.

Hosted by two beauty editors, Jessica Matlin and Jennifer Goldstein, Fat Mascara is my source for all things new in beauty & skincare. These ladies are not only funny, but are deep in what’s brewing in beauty – from the newest facials, skincare brands to bringing on the experts to talk IPLs or debating the concept of derma rolling (lots of controversy w/ this one!).

the daily.

Before I discovered my love for podcasts, I was TERRIBLE at keeping up with the news. For one, I have a short attention span, and reading an article for 15 minutes about one topic is just NEVER going to happen for me. On top of that, I don’t watch much TV or read news sites. Instead of being uninformed, I’ve shifted HOW I get my news..PODCASTS! The Daily is one of the news podcasts I now follow regularly. It’s a twenty minute dive on the latest news stories, but the way they deliver the news is what keeps me coming back. They actually tell a story versus just delivering the facts (which they also do, obvi). Every day you’ll find there’s a new topic they cover in depth – and for the first time in a long time, I actually feel like I know wtf is going on in the world. PS – if twenty minutes sounds too long for you, try Skimm This (another great one I listen to that recaps the daily news in ten minutes).

the armchair expert.

I will flat out admit that I hate saying I love this podcast (which I 100% do), because there are times that Dax Shepard annoys the SH*T out of me. That said, he’s a damn good interviewer and his banter, as annoying as it can be, has me hooked. The Armchair Expert is essentially Dax bringing on all of his friends to discuss life (or as he says “the messiness of being human”). I appreciate his honesty and willingness to share, and he has a gift that brings these qualities out in those that he’s interviewing as well. My favorite episodes include Gwyneth Paltrow, Conan O’Brien, and Lena Dunham.

the ground up show.

If you’ve seen the Minimalism documentary on Netflix, you’re going to love The Ground Up podcast because it’s by the guy who created the film, Matt Davella. I’m kind of obsessed with him at the moment…he’s got this soothing, super chill vibe about him that I find intriguing and inspiring. The podcast features creatives from various backgrounds – rappers, comedians, artists, etc. – and the focus is on how they get sh*t done. I’m a sucker for a good back story or a deep dive on someone’s routine, so I really enjoy this one. I also recommend checking out Matt’s YouTube channel – he’s got some great stuff on there too.

the vice guide to right now.

I have a Google Home mini that speaks to me in the AM as I get ready for work. I was lucky enough to have The Vice Guide to Right Now included in my AM news roundup (thanks Google). This podcast is AMAZING in that it surfaces stuff that’s going on that isn’t making major headlines, but is equally important to know. For example, I learned last week that through a clinical trial in Europe, two people were cured of HIV. I also learned about what the hell is going on with male birth control (why do WE as women have to carry the burden?!!). This is a great source for news that’s not in the news…love it.
