The 80s are back this year, in a big way. Not EVERYTHING 80s (don’t go tweezing off your eyebrows just yet), but there is a solid chunk of trends making their way back into 2019.
I’ve been an 80’s fanatic since…the beginning of time? I mean, look at my latest haircut, I’m not fooling anyone. There are a few 80’s fashion trends that I’m jumping with excitement to wear, so I’ve corralled items within each trend that I’ve got my eye on. Which 80’s trend are YOU most excited for?
neon.
Oh yes, the neon that started in the 80s and trickled it’s way through the 90s. I’m quite familiar with this one…a quick sift through my childhood photos will result in speckles of bright purple, fuchsia and lime green on graphic tees, hair bows, sneakers (really, everywhere). This time around, I’m gravitating towards the bright pinks, greens and yellows.
shoulder pads.
Potentially one of my all time favorite on this list, and one that I’ve been an offender of (potentially before it was even “in”). Shoulder pads just look so damn GOOD. They can instantly elevate any look, and the structure they add is flattering and edgy. They are especially flattering if you have narrower shoulders.
pearls.
I have no doubt that you have seen pearls slowly take over your Instagram feed. From earrings, hair accessories, bags, to necklaces…pearls are creeping back into our lives in a big way. A quick Google search and you’ll find yourself in 80’s pearl heaven. I’m loving the hair accessories and chunky layered pearled look.
large statement earrings.
This trend seems to find its way back in repeatedly, and this season it’s the big & loud statement earrings that are making an appearance. You’ll find bold colors, unique shapes and pops of metallic on the ears of the fashionistas & celebs in 2019. I’m particularly loving geometric shapes and colorful hoops (especially acrylic ones!).
