I’m always one for testing new beauty products & mixing up my skincare rotation, but jojoba oil has been part of my routine for a couple of years now. It took me time to warm up to the idea of putting oil on my face – I used to think it would make me break out! “Oil free” was always a positive thing in my mind – but I’ve learned that’s SO not the case. I find myself using jojoba oil the most out of any other oil (I use coconut & vitamin E oil too), because it’s lighter and absorbs really well. In fact, it’s supposed to be very close to the natural oils our body produces. I buy mine from acne.org – it’s such a great value! I’ve had mine for over a year and there’s PLENTY left. You can also find it here & here. Now, on to how I actually use it…
I put this stuff on my face every night before bed. It absorbs pretty quickly so I don’t get that greasy feeling, but at the same time when I wake up my skin feels super hydrated. All I need is 3-4 drops, and I spread it around my face and neck area. I’ve noticed over time that my complexion is more even and I’ve had less and less issues with random breakouts. In a weird way the oil balances out your natural skin oils (it’s tricking your skin so that it doesn’t overproduce as much oil).Sometimes, I just want to put something odorless and clear on my lips for hydration (I do live in Chicago after all) but I’m not a fan of the shiny lip look, which is why I don’t use Vaseline! Jojoba oil is great for this purpose – I apply a drop or two to my lips, and no one can even tell I have anything on (I’m going au naturale, remember?! ha).Confession – I’m a cuticle biter. I know, it’s gross. It’s been a habit of mine since I was a kid and I can’t kick it! That said, 90% of the time my cuticles are super dry. Ever wish that you can keep the oil they have at the nail salon? Well, you can thank me later, because this stuff will do the job. I apply it to my cuticles every AM before heading out, and I think I’ve been successful in masking my bad habit! As much as I try to find wipes and cleansers to get all my makeup off, I never succeed. In order to make sure my face is truly “clean”, I soak a few cotton balls with jojoba and rub off all my eye makeup prior to cleansing my face. Works like a charm, and I don’t have to worry about putting weird stuff on my eyelids (I don’t trust those makeup removers!).
