Yay, YouTube! If you haven’t yet, please check out (& subscribe!) to my YouTube channel! I’m a newbie to this space, but have been having so much fun with it so far and hope to continue expanding on video content. In this week’s video, I’m talking ALL about the staple summer pieces I have in my closet. Though you catch me wearing trendy statement pieces often on Instagram, “real world” me ends up resorting to my favorite summer basics (with a goal to wear them a “fresh” way every single time!). Here are six summer staples I find myself wearing again and again –

I am not a shorts kind of girl, but these work for me. Because of the high waist, and the fact that I got them slightly oversized, they are incredibly comfortable. Loose in the waist (which makes it easy to tuck in an oversized shirt) and enough space in the thighs where they never ride up. Potentially one of the most versatile pieces in my closet – can be dressed up with cute ankle boots, sparkly sandals, or worn to the beach. These were a vintage purchase (from a past NYC trip), but I’ve linked to so many options below that will do the trick!

This blouse was the best $6 I ever spent. It was a lucky find at Salvation Army last summer, a men’s silk shirt in a size XL (who would’ve thought?!). I’ve worn this piece to DEATH…layered over jumpsuits, dresses, belted…the list goes on. An oversized blouse is key for summer, and if you can find a heavy silk one, it’s a win.

When you’re having an off day, a jumpsuit is your best friend. I was looking for a boiler/utilitarian type jumpsuit earlier in the season, and wound up finding this one at Mango (unfortunately, it’s sold out!). I love the neutral color, that it can be worn with sneakers or flatforms, and that it’s 100% cotton (which makes it ideal for the hot summer days).

summer staples: linen pants

These linen pants were purchased at one of my favorite boutiques in Athens (they have the BEST linens in Europe!!). I adore the high waist and funky shape – they flare out in the knees in a strange way but it works. I adore these with sneakers, sandals and have even entertained the idea of wearing them out with a pair of strappy heels. It could totally work. I typically wear them with graphic tees, a denim jacket and cropped sweaters.

summer staples: denim jacket

Need I say more?! I wear this jacket almost DAILY. I rarely wear jeans in the summer, so it makes it extra easy to throw on a denim jacket over skirts, dresses and non-denim pants. And even when I do wear denim, I can wear it with that too (depending on the wash, of course!). This was another NYC vintage purchase – from the same store as my shorts, actually – I love the wash and the subtle distressing on it. And the more I wear it, the more it feels like my own.

And last but definitely not least! The nude ribbed mini skirt (or any color cotton midi skirt, really!). This skirt can be worn almost all year round (except for maybe Jan-Mar), with sandals, boots, slides, sneakers…it’s one of the most worn items in my closet, even outside of summer. It’s a nice quality cotton, so it keeps its shape, and the color goes with EVERYTHING. It helps that it hits me just in the right spots (high enough waist and the perfect length), and it’s form fitting without being inappropriate for work.
