spring layering tips

This may just be the most confusing time of year when it comes to dressing up. Is it winter or spring? Really, the answer to that question varies by hour over here. You can hear the birds chirping away in the morning, and have the wind blast your face off in the afternoon. What’s one to do, style-wise (sanity-wise is another story)?!

There is an art to layering, especially amidst this type of seasonal conundrum. In the winter, I was layering turtlenecks like it was my job…because duh, it’s chic and effective. This time of year, I’ve got a few other layering tips up my sleeve that have helped me adjust to the whack weather on the fly.

swap the turtleneck with a white tee.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m all up for stretching out the time I rock the turtlenecks (I love them oh so much). BUT, as it warms up, I’m all about switching over to a white tee as a layering piece. It’s a bit lighter and feels more “spring” – it’s about time I let my pasty neck out to see the sunlight! If you’re on the hunt for the perfect white tee, I did a thorough evaluation & ranked my favs!

stash the sweater, bring out the button down.

If I have to wear an oversize sweater ONE MORE DAY. I’m the queen of oversize sweaters, but after wearing them 90 days in a row I literally want to burn them ALL and proceed to dance in the rain (is that even, like, scientifically possible?).

My solution to this VERY serious dilemma? Put those sweaters in storage and reach for an oversize button down shirt instead. I’ve managed to build a mini collection of these shirts, and I find myself reaching for them almost daily in the spring / summer. They can be worn solo, layered over the white tee I mentioned earlier, OR even over a dress or jumpsuit

trade the winter coat for a blazer.

I dream of the day where I can leave my house sans coat & winter accessories. IT’S COMING. Even on those 50 degree days, I can get by with a few layers and an oversize blazer! That said, WORK THOSE BLAZERS FRIENDS! They can have form & function! You can even toss on a beanie for some extra warm if you’re still defrosting – another style statement that serves a purpose ;).
